Free CeCe: By exploring the story of CeCe McDonald's experiences after defending herself, Free CeCe confronts the culture of violence surrounding trans women of color. Directed by Jac Gares, it is told through the voices of Laverne Cox and CeCe McDonald. For further information, please visit www.freececedocumentary.com.
Just Gender: Also from Buddha Dog Productions, Just Gender puts a human face on the transgender community, and in doing so, challenges us to set aside our notions of what it means to be man or woman. The film, narrated by Tony and Emmy award-winner Bebe Neuwirth, describes the broad range of gender expression within the transgender. For further information, please visit www.justgender.com.
Outstanding Organizations support the needs of transgender people, including people needing justice assistance. These organizations need our support as well. They include, for example, Transgender Law Center, ACLU, Lambda Legal, TGI Justice, Gender Justice, Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. The National Center for Transgender Equality provides a comprehensive list of the many state organizations providing support.
Support for a better future is being provided by some amazing organizations. We name a few that we have had the opportunity to get to know a little during the process of producing both Where Justice Ends and Just Gender, including those that advocate for transgender immigrants (Trans Latina and Immigration Equality), safe-space recovery (Inspire Recovery), and that incubate ideas and opportunities to advance economic opportunities for transgender people (TransTech Social).
